This thesis presents a connection between Periodic orbits and lattices of area 1 and the complement of the trefoil knot in the 3-shpere. What is mentioned above is a recent investigation, based on Étienne Gyhs paper called Knots and Dynamics. To achieve this objective, we associate mathematical objects that we know how to manipulate (matrix) to knots. The beauty of knots lies in all the concepts and math areas that are connected to describe such elements and how unrelated objects turn out to be related. All this not to mention the applications that there are so far. In Chapter 1, we study the space of lattices of area 1 identifying them with SL2(R)/SL2(Z) which is more useful in order to define functions in an easier way. In Chapters 2 and 3, we establish a correspondence between the space of lattices of area 1 with S3\T, where T defines the trefoil knot. This correspondence is demonstrated in two different ways. Finally, in Chapter 4, some definitions are given to be able to define a modular flow in lattices, and then we study some knots in S3\T. Even though the present thesis is based on Étienne Ghys work, we provided some personal contributions. We mainly include detailed proofs of which some authors only sketch some ideas. We also include a full chapter of a completely new idea of demonstrating the homeomorphism between SL2(R)/SL2(Z) and the complement of the trefoil knot in the 3-sphere (Chapter 3).
En esta tesis se presenta una conexión entre Órbitas periódicas de retículas unitarias y Nudos en el complemento del nudo trébol. Esto es algo reciente, basado en un trabajo bien conocido del matemático Étienne Ghys llamado Knots and Dynamics. Para lograr este objetivo, asociamos a los nudos objetos matemáticos que sabemos calcular y comprender mejor (matrices). La belleza de los nudos radica en las herramientas matemáticas que hay detrás, además de que conectan distintas áreas de las matemáticas y el cómo objetos no relacionados resultan sí estar relacionados. Todo esto sin mencionar todas las aplicaciones que hasta el momento hay. En el Capítulo 1 se estudia el espacio de retículas unitarias al identificarlo con SL2(R)/SL2(Z). Esto permite definir funciones de manera mucho más sencilla. En los Capítulos 2 y 3, se establece una correspondencia entre el espacio de retículas unitarias con S3\T, donde T es el nudo trébol. Esta correspondencia se demuestra de dos maneras distintas. Finalmente, en el Capítulo 4, se dan definiciones importantes para poder definir el flujo en las retículas y estudiar algunos nudos en S3\T. A pesar de que la tesis se basa en el trabajo de Étienne Ghys, se realizaron algunas aportaciones personales que consisten en detallar algunas demostraciones de las que solo se bosquejan algunas ideas, se incluye además un capitulo con la idea de una demostración completamente nueva del homeomorfismo entre SL2(R)/SL2(Z) y el complemento del nudo trébol en S3 (Capitulo 3).
