In this work, a cooling unit for drilling fluids was modeled with the Engineering Equation Solver (EES) software, which in the course of this work we call it as a dynamic cooling tower. The results of the model were compared with the experimental results obtained from a unit designed and built by the Group for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies (GREEN-ER). The experimentation was based on the characterization of said unit, mainly on obtaining parameters of inlet and outlet temperatures of the fluids involved, relative humidity and mass flow. This was done by varying the amount of air that was introduced to the cooling tower, as well as the amount of movement that was supplied to this device to vary the convective coefficient. The amount of air was quantified by using an induced draft air fan and the variation of the convective coefficient was ensured by the movement of stirring blades that were placed inside the cooling tower. An internal combustion engine is responsible for producing the movement of both the fan and the blades through a transmission consisting of axles, pulleys, belts, gears and chains. By varying the engine rpm, different air mass flows and different convective coefficients were obtained, maintaining a constant drilling fluid mass flow. Based on this, the model quantifies the amount of heat that the dynamic cooling tower removes from the drilling fluid (which is the main objective of this device), the amount of heat that it transfers by evaporation of the water contained in the drilling fluid and that is mixed with the air, the amount of sensible heat that is transmitted to the air and the amount of heat that is transmitted by convection to the environment.
En este trabajo se modeló con el sotfware Engineering Equation Solver (EES) una unidad de enfriamiento para fluidos de perforación, que en el transcurso de este trabajo denominamos torre de enfriamiento dinámica. Los resultados del modelo se compararon con los resultados experimentales obtenidos de una unidad diseñada y construida por el Grupo de Eficiencia Energética y Energías Renovables (GREEN-ER). La experimentación se basó en la caracterización de dicha unidad, principalmente de la obtención de parámetros de temperaturas de entrada y salida de los fluidos implicados, humedades relativas y flujos másicos. Esto se hizo mediante la variación de la cantidad de aire que se introdujo a la torre de enfriamiento, así como a la cantidad de movimiento que se le suministró a este dispositivo para variar el coeficiente convectivo. La cantidad de aire se cuantificó mediante el uso de un ventilador aire de tiro inducido y la variación del coeficiente convectivo se aseguró mediante el movimiento de palas de agitación que se colocaron en el interior de la torre de enfriamiento. Un motor de combustión interna es el encargado de producir el movimiento tanto del ventilador como de las palas mediante una transmisión que consiste de flechas, poleas, bandas, catarinas y cadenas. Al variar las rpm del motor se obtuvieron diferentes flujos másicos de aire y diferentes coeficientes convectivos, manteniendo un flujo másico de fluido de perforación constante. En base a esto, el modelo cuantifica la cantidad de calor que la torre de enfriamiento dinámica elimina del fluido de perforación (que es el objetivo principal de este dispositivo), la cantidad de calor que transfiere por evaporación del agua contenida en el fluido de perforación y que se mezcla con el aire, la cantidad de calor sensible que se transmite al aire y la cantidad de calor que se transmite por convección al medio ambiente.
