Análisis de la idea "progreso científico" en T.S. Kuhn

Abstract

This thesis work looks forward to making an analysis of the idea of scientific progress in T. S. Kuhn. Also, the purpose is to make a qualitative contrast between this idea with the idea of scientific progress that some of the members of the scientific community have in the present time. From these analysis and comparison of ideas, a discussion about the role of scientists in society and their perceptions of scientific divulgation, is opened. The work is divided in three chapters. In the first one, we make a general review of Kuhn’s framework of thoughts; we show his biography, the context of his ideas, some of its consequences and we mention some of the discussions held by our author and his principal critics. In the second chapter we present the main ideas of Kuhn and we focused on the idea of scientific progress. Moreover, we explain the idea of scientific progress that some scientists currently have, and we relate, as well, this idea with the image of science that prevails nowadays. In the third chapter, the different ideas of scientific progress presented before are compared. Finally, taking into account this contrast, we defend the position where scientists appear as important factors for divulgation of science. We think that they have a big responsibility and a relevant role in society.

El presente trabajo de tesis busca hacer un análisis de la idea de progreso científico en T.S. Kuhn. Asimismo, tiene el propósito de contrastar cualitativamente esta idea con la idea de progreso científico que algunos miembros de la comunidad científica actualmente sostienen. A partir de tal análisis y comparación se discute el papel de los científicos en la sociedad, y sus percepciones respecto de la divulgación de la ciencia. El trabajo está divido en tres capítulos. En el primero se hace un recorrido general por el pensamiento de Kuhn, exponiendo su biografía, el contexto en el que se desarrollaron sus ideas, algunas consecuencias que éstas tuvieron, y se mencionan algunas de las discusiones sostenidas con sus principales críticos. En el segundo capítulo se exponen las principales ideas de nuestro autor prestando especial atención a la de progreso científico. Además, se presenta la idea de progreso científico que algunos miembros del gremio actualmente expresan, y cómo se relaciona ésta con la imagen prevaleciente de la ciencia. En el tercer capítulo se contrasta la idea kuhniana de progreso científico y la correspondiente imagen de la ciencia con las percepciones expresadas recientemente por algunos miembros de la comunidad científica. A partir de dicho contraste se defiende la posición de que los científicos tienen un importante papel social y una responsabilidad en la divulgación de la actividad científica.
