Traducción comentada del artículo "Wittgenstein's critique of philosophy" de Robert John Fogelin (1996)

Abstract

Given the relevance of the issues addressed in the article and the good reception that its author's works have had, it is appropriate to present this translation of “Wittgenstein's critique of philosophy”, by Robert John Fogelin (1996), an article originally published in English in the Cambridge Companion to Wittgenstein, edited by Hans Sluga and David G. Stern. The article provides an overview of the main features of Wittgenstein's critique of the philosophical tradition, as can be found in the Philosophical Investigations and in the Remarks on the Foundations of Mathematics. Fogelin's method consists in dividing Wittgenstein's critique of philosophy in two fronts, on one hand, the attack on referentialism, and on the other, the attack on logical perfectionism. As a complement to the translation, this work includes a presentation of some of the most fundamental notions of the thought of the so-called "late Wittgenstein" or "second Wittgenstein", with which it is intended, among other things, to characterize his more mature conceptions about philosophy and language.

Dada la relevancia de los temas que aborda el artículo y la buena recepción que han tenido las obras de su autor, es oportuno presentar esta traducción de “Wittgenstein’s critique of philosophy”, por Robert John Fogelin (1996), artículo publicado originalmente en inglés en el Cambridge Companion to Wittgenstein, editado por Hans Sluga y David G. Stern. El artículo brinda una descripción general de las principales características de la crítica de Wittgenstein a la tradición filosófica, como se puede encontrar en las Investigaciones filosóficas y en las Observaciones sobre los fundamentos de las matemáticas. El método de Fogelin consiste en dividir en dos frentes la crítica de Wittgenstein a la filosofía, por un lado, el ataque al referencialismo y por el otro, el ataque al perfeccionismo lógico. Como complemento a la traducción, se incluye en este trabajo una presentación de algunas de las nociones más fundamentales del pensamiento del llamado «Wittgenstein tardío» o «segundo Wittgenstein», con lo que se pretende, entre otras cosas, caracterizar sus concepciones más maduras en torno a la filosofía y el lenguaje.
