Mind, meaning, and practice

Abstract

This work presents and then translates Barry Stroud’s article ‘Mind, meaning, and practice’ originally published in 1996 in the anthology The Cambridge Companion to Wittgenstein (Cambridge University Press). To introduce in to the present work, as a presentation, the first part of the work will expose a bibliographical review of the text author, in a second part will be present principal ideas expose in the article; a) Criticism of reductionism and the myth of mental interiority, b) meaning as use, c) skepticism on following rules, and at last will give some remarks and clarifications that came along from the process of translation work. The second part contains the translation of Stroud’s article and an appendix with the original text.

En este trabajo se presenta y traduce el artículo ‘Mind, meaning, and practice’, publicado originalmente por Barry Stroud en 1996 en la antología The Cambridge Companion to Wittgenstein editado por Cambridge University Press. A manera de presentación, en el primer apartado se expondrá una reseña biográfica del autor del texto, segundo, se abordarán los principales puntos tratados en el artículo traducido; a) Crítica al reduccionismo y al mito de la interioridad mental, b) el significado como uso, c) escepticismo sobre el seguimiento de reglas y, por último, se ofrecerán algunas observaciones y aclaraciones resultantes del proceso de traducción. La segunda parte del trabajo consta de la traducción realizada y su apéndice que presenta el texto original.
