The document addresses topics such as: the anatomy and physiology of the mammary gland, the defense mechanisms of the gland, what is milk and its components, what are somatic cells, their functions and the impact they have on the quality of milk. milk, as well as solutions to obtain low levels of these cells in milk. The methodology used consisted of a literature review on the importance of somatic cells. For this, a search, collection, selection, analysis and synthesis of the information obtained from sources such as: books, scientific and popular articles, as well as some theses carried out on the subject, was carried out. The work was carried out with the purpose of making the producer see that by having a low somatic cell level in his herd or within a range acceptable by the pasteurizers, his milk will be of better quality and better paid, as well as having a free herd of diseases and to provide alternatives of how to have a low level of somatic cells in milk. Therefore, it intends to contribute in a means of consultation for those interested in the subject.
El documento aborda temas como son: la anatomía y fisiología de la glándula mamaria, los mecanismos de defensa de la glándula, qué es la leche y sus componentes, qué son las células somáticas, sus funciones y el impacto que tienen sobre la calidad de la leche, así como, las soluciones para obtener niveles bajos de dichas células en la leche. La metodología empleada consistió en una revisión de literatura sobre la importancia de las células somáticas. Para ello se llevó a cabo una búsqueda, acopio, selección, análisis y síntesis de la información obtenida de fuentes como: libros, artículos científicos y de divulgación, además de algunas tesis realizadas sobre el tema. El trabajo se realizó con la finalidad de hacerle ver al productor que al tener en su hato un nivel de células somáticas bajas o dentro de un rango aceptable por las pasteurizadoras su leche será de mejor calidad y mejor pagada, así como, tener un hato libre de enfermedades y el de proporcionar alternativas de como tener un nivel bajo de células somáticas en leche. Por lo que pretende contribuir en un medio de consulta para los interesados en el tema.
