The aim of this study was to determine the current situation keeping beekeeping in the municipalities of Aquila and Coahuayana Hidalgo, Michoacán. The study was conducted from April to September 2013 in the aforementioned municipalities It conducted a literature review of beekeeping in Mexico and Michoacán. The field research was carried out by means of direct interview and visit with beekeepers. We found that there are two beekeepers in the town of Hidalgo, and 5 Coahuayana beekeepers in the town of Aquila with a total of 738 apiaries, obtaining approximately 18,000 kilograms of honey per year, the sale takes place at the local, state and national level, made 2 crops per year in the period of February-March and November-December. We conclude that beekeeping in these municipalities is in an underdeveloped situation due to lack of technical support, training, infrastructure and government support.
El objetivo del presente trabajo fue conocer la situación actual que guarda la apicultura en los municipios de Aquila y Coahuayana de Hidalgo, Michoacán. El trabajo se realizó de Abril a Septiembre de 2013 en los municipios antes mencionados para ello se llevó a cabo una revisión de literatura sobre la apicultura en México y Michoacán. La investigación de campo se realizó por medio de la entrevista directa y visita con los apicultores. Se encontró que existen 2 apicultores en el municipio de Coahuayana de Hidalgo y 5 apicultores en el municipio de Aquila con un total de 738 apiarios, obteniendo aproximadamente 18,000 kilogramos de miel por año, la venta se realiza a nivel local, estatal y nacional, realizan 2 cosechas al año en el periodo de Febrero-Marzo y Noviembre-Diciembre. Se concluye que la actividad apícola en estos municipios se halla en una situación subdesarrollada debido a la falta de apoyo técnico, capacitación, infraestructura y apoyo del gobierno.
