Within the historical research process, one of the essential elements for those of us who dedicate ourselves to this professional activity is the use of documentary sources. Morelia has been characterized by the presence of different repositories that safeguard the written memory of our future, however, until ten years ago the situation of most of the archives was unfavorable, since the collections were not grouped in a specific space. , nor in the ideal physical conditions for its conservation, much less was there a systematic classification, thus preventing access to those of us who required some consultation. As a result of the consistent work carried out by the graduates of the former school, today the Faculty of History, the perspective of the establishments responsible for safeguarding these documentary collections changed substantially. Several of the students who managed to obtain a bachelor's degree began to occupy the managerial positions of the repositories, giving an important twist to the appearance they had until then, as well as to the different jobs carried out inside them. This task was supported by the social service projects, which allowed the incorporation of a significant number of history students, who made it possible to speed up and improve the ordering and classification of the collections.
Dentro del proceso de investigación histórica, uno de los elementos indispensables para quienes nos dedicamos a esa actividad profesional, es la utilización de fuentes documentales. Morelia se ha caracterizado por la presencia de distintos repositorios que resguardan la memoria escrita de nuestro devenir, sin embargo hasta hace diez años la situación que guardaban la mayor parte de los archivos era desfavorable, ya que los acervos no se encontraban agrupados en un espacio determinado, ni en las condiciones físicas idoneas para su conservación, mucho menos existía una clasificación sistemática, impidiéndose así el acceso de quienes requeríamos alguna consulta. A raíz del trabajo consistente que realizaron los egresados de la antes escuela, hoy facultad de Historia, cambió sustancialmente la perspectiva de los establecimientos responsables de resguardar esas colecciones documentales. Varios de los alumnos que lograron alcanzar el grado de licenciatura empezaron a ocupar los puestos directivos de los repositorios, dándole un giro importante al aspecto que hasta entonces tenían, así como a los distintos trabajos que se realizan en su interior. Esta tarea se vió apoyada con los proyectos de servicio social, que permitieron la incorporación de un número importante de estudiantes de la carrera de historia, quienes hicieron posible acelerar y mejorar el ordenamiento y clasificación de los acervos.
