There are still information gaps about many of the characters who participated in the war of independence in the Coahuayutla region, in the current state of Guerrero, and without a doubt José María Izazaga Martínez is a clear example of this. The historiography that exists around him has been characterized by the lack of precision in the data and the excessive flattery of his person. To this we must add that very little or almost nothing was known about his life before and after the Independence of Mexico. Colonel Rubén García in his writing: Lic. Don José Maria Izazaga el olvidado, what he did was present a compilation of titles and documents where the character is mentioned. In addition to being loaded with praise for the biographie, it seems to us that it is a good attempt to approach our object of study. But we have to verify what this colonel tells us, comparing it with archival documentation, which is something that he does not present to us; it only refers to quotes from the classics. It can be understood for being the time when it was filled with patriotism and vainglory of our national heroes. However, this author left out the regional study, which is what we intend to deal with.
Aún existen lagunas informativas sobre muchos de los personajes que participaron en la guerra de independencia en la región de Coahuayutla, en el actual estado de Guerrero, y sin duda el licenciado José María Izazaga Martínez es un claro ejemplo de ello. La historiografía que existe en torno a él se ha caracterizado por la falta de precisión en los datos y los excesivos halagos a su persona. A esto habrá que agregar, que muy poco o casi nada se sabía de su vida antes y después de la Independencia de México. El coronel Rubén García en su escrito: Lic. Don José Maria Izazaga el olvidado, lo que hizo fue presentar una recopilación de títulos y documentos donde se menciona al personaje. Además de estar cargado de elogios al biografiado nos parece que es un buen intento de acercamiento a nuestro objeto de estudio. Pero tenemos que comprobar lo que este coronel nos dice, confrontándolo con documentación de archivo, que es algo que no nos presenta; solo hace referencia a las citas de los clásicos. Se le puede entender por ser la época en que se llenó de patriotismo y de vanagloria de nuestros héroes nacionales. Sin embargo, este autor dejó de lado el estudio regional, que es de lo que pensamos ocuparnos.
