La familia de Élite en Valladolid de Michoacán, alianzas estratégicas para la conservación de una clase (1776-1810)

Abstract

The interest in studying family problems arose as a result of my attendance at a seminar that dealt with this subject, deeply drawing my attention to the results of some investigations, whose political, economic and social aspects, showed the behaviors that each member of the family manifested in his private sphere, affecting his attitudes in the society that surrounded him; In addition, the guidance and advice, both from some researchers, as well as from my teachers, motivated me to carry out this project, seeking to conceive another contribution to the study of family history applied to the city of Valladolid, Michoacán. The temporality that we have chosen to start our study analysis falls on the importance of three historical events, firstly from the year 1776, by the work of the King of Spain, Carlos III, a Royal Pragmatic Sanction was stipulated, which regulated the marriage of the offspring, with the authorization of the father now being a requirement to carry out said links. This situation was completely contrary to what happened in previous centuries, since the children of the family had their own will to choose the couple that seemed best to them, which resulted in some losses of honor, prestige and wealth, to the families of the elite; For this reason, at the end of the enlightened century, this would change radically, thus granting absolute control of the decisions of the conjugal unions of the children to the heads of the family

El interés por estudiar la problemática familiar surgió a raíz de mi asistencia a un seminario que abordaba dicha temática, llamando profundamente mi atención los resultados que algunas investigaciones, cuyas vertientes políticas, económicas y sociales, mostraban los comportamientos que cada integrante de la familia manifestaba en su ámbito privado, repercutiendo sus actitudes en la sociedad que lo rodeaba; además la orientación y consejo, tanto de algunos investigadores, así mismo de mis profesores, me motivaron a llevar a cabo este proyecto buscando con ello concebir un aporte más al estudio de la historia de la familia aplicado a la ciudad de Valladolid de Michoacán. La temporalidad que hemos elegido para iniciar nuestro análisis de estudio recae en la importancia tres sucesos históricos, primeramente a partir del año de 1776, por obra del rey de España, Carlos III, se estipuló una Real Pragmática Sanción, la cual regulaba el matrimonio de los vástagos, siendo ahora un requisito la autorización del padre para llevar a cabo dichos enlaces. Esta situación era totalmente contraria a lo que ocurrió en siglos anteriores, ya que los hijos de familia tenían voluntad propia de elegir a la pareja que mejor les pareciere, lo que trajo como resultado algunas pérdidas de honor, prestigio y caudal, a las familias de la élite; por ello a finales del siglo ilustrado esto cambiaría radicalmente, otorgando así el control absoluto de las decisiones de las uniones conyugales de los hijos a los jefes de familia.
