This research analyzes the history of the village festivals in Chalam, which belongs to the municipality of Mitontic, Chiapas. Mitontic a Tzotzil region instituted before the arrival of the Spanish in Mexico, is an example of how indigenous cultures have been mixing with the mestizo culture, in their traditions and festivities. They highlight the habits and attitudes of Chalam in the analysis, and shows that many indigenous traditions have changed over time. The importance that is given the fiesta in the town is of utmost importance since society is identified with that, but not worth mentioning that is also related to economic and social political interests.
Esta investigación, analiza la historia de las fiestas del pueblo de Chalam, que pertenece al municipio de Mitontic, Chiapas. Mitontic, una región tsotsil instaurada antes de la llegada de los españoles, es una muestra de cómo las culturas autóctonas se han ido mezclando con la mestiza, en sus tradiciones y festividades. En el análisis se destacan los hábitos y actitudes de Chalam, y se demuestra que muchas de las tradiciones indígenas se han modificado con el paso del tiempo. La importancia que se le da la fiesta patronal en la localidad es de suma importancia ya qué la sociedad se identifican en ello, pero no cabe mencionar que también está relacionado con intereses políticos económicos y sociales.
