The periodical press as source of study for history, it is a valuable element; nevertheless, it must be analyzed with caution because it has a role as an instrument of the power groups; consequently, the press has been the ideal means to guide the opinions of its readers through a perfectly manipulated discourse. In this research we made an analysis of the perception of the Morelian Catholic press of 1920-1923, about an event that marked the beginning of modern education in México: the creation of the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP). This is because the SEP, as a State institution, came to modify not only the national educational system, but also to highlight the frictions in the relationship between the State and the Catholic Church.
La prensa como fuente de estudio para la historia, es un elemento historiográficamente valioso; sin embrago, debe ser analizada con mucha cautela, pues, debido a su papel como un instrumento de los grupos de poder, la prensa ha sido el medio idóneo para orientar las opiniones de sus lectores a través de un discurso perfectamente manipulado. En este trabajo llevamos a cabo un análisis de la percepción de la prensa católica moreliana de los años 1920-1923 referentes a un acontecimiento que marcó el inicio de la educación moderna en México: la creación de la Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP). Esto a causa de que la SEP como institución de Estado, vino a modificar no solo el sistema educativo nacional, sino a evidenciar también las fricciones entre la relación del Estado y la Iglesia Católica.
