Abstract

The farm was the productive unit in which the economy of Pedernales revolved and it is precisely in that place where the workers of this one created the majority of the customs and traditions of the community: The Pedernales balls, the guarapo, the combat party and the jaripeos. The peons of the hacienda professed the Catholic religion, which is why the clergy maintained a regime of submission in conjunction with the hacendado to the workers, however, It was thanks to the religion that new customs and traditions of a religious nature emerged, such as the adoration to the Virgin of Health, the blessing of carts and carts of cane, inns, religious legends such as the hill of Mariana, the lord of Carácuaro, the Day of the Dead, the Virgin of Guadalupe, the carnival and the Day of the Magi.

Historia y Cultura de la Comunidad de Pedernales Michoacán, muestra las costumbres y tradiciones de la sociedad pedernalense creadas a través del cultivo y producción de la caña de azúcar como base económica de la comunidad, lo que propició una superestructura ideológica que permeó una identidad popular. Con el descubrimiento de América, se introdujo en el siglo XVI la caña de azúcar a México iniciando con ello el despegue de la actividad azucarera en nuestro país. Sin embargo, es durante el siglo XX cuando el empresario de origen español Pío Bermejillo adquiere la hacienda de Pedernales que contaba con un trapiche azucarero, y debido al gran respaldo económico que éste poseía invirtió en la innovación tecnológica del molino incrementando con ello la producción azucarera de la región, con lo cual logró arraigar en la población el cultivo y producción de la caña de azúcar como fuente vida. La hacienda fue la unidad productiva en la cual giró la economía de Pedernales y es precisamente en ese lugar en donde los trabajadores de ésta crearon la mayoría de las costumbres y tradiciones de la comunidad: las Bolas de Pedernales, el guarapo, la fiesta del combate y los jaripeos. Los peones de la hacienda profesaban la religión católica, razón por la cual el clero mantenía un régimen de sumisión en conjunto con el hacendado a los trabajadores, no obstante, fue gracias a la religión que surgieron nuevas costumbres y tradiciones de carácter religioso como fue la adoración a la Virgen de la Salud, la bendición de carros y carretas de caña, las posadas, leyendas de tipo religioso como el cerro de Mariana, el señor de Carácuaro, el Día de muertos, la Virgen de Guadalupe, el carnaval y el Día de los reyes magos.
