This Documentary Catalog describes the files found in books 7, 10, 14 and 16 of the series of modifications and translations, purchase-sale sub-series (1902 - 1908), of the District of La Piedad section, Public Property Registry Fund Root of the State of Michoacán, protected in the General and Historical Archive of the Executive Power of Michoacán. The documentary collection is made up of original manuscript documents, from the first decade of the 20th century, which are mostly contracts for the sale of properties in La Piedad, Michoacán. This Catalog carries out an introductory analysis of the historical aspects, in which the documents found in the books were created, in order to provide the reader with a historical contextualization, as well as the description of the archival, diplomatic and palaeographic aspects of the files.
Dentro del complejo proceso de integración y funcionamiento del imperio español, uno de sus problemas estructurales y más agobiantes fue el financiero. Para aliviar en parte esta situación desde muy pronto los sucesivos monarcas instituyeron la venta de diversos oficios públicos. La práctica se trasladó en su momento al reino de la Nueva España y fue una actividad recurrente a lo largo de los siglos coloniales. La ciudad de Valladolid de Michoacán no estuvo exenta de esta situación y en el transcurso del siglo XVII los miembros de su oligarquía accedieron a la integración y control del ayuntamiento por ese conducto, para materializar sus proyectos individuales y colectivos. Los rígidos mecanismos establecidos para la venta de los oficios en ese cuerpo colegiado, inhibido que otros actores sociales pudieran aspirar a alcanzarlos y ostentarlos.
