The text has the fundamental purpose of proposing and analyzing the historical process of foundation and operation of the encomienda of Taximaroa, Michoacán, which was assigned in 1524 by Hernán Cortés, to the influential royal factor Gonzalo de Salazar. This character and his successors would register a constantly frictional relationship with the social actors with whom that benefit must have coexisted at the dawn of colonial society, among them the republics of Indians and incipient groups of power and interest such as miners, merchants and ranchers, with which the encomenderos and their relatives competed for the control and use of the natural and human resources located in this geographical space.
