The information we provide financial statements helps solve such problems, however, the real reason for such assistance can only be understood after developing methods of analysis of financial statements and the characteristics of them. The financial statements alone are not sufficient to reach a conclusion regarding the general situation of a company, because certain factors that have a decisive influence on their situation, are not part of those, such as management style, business location, reputation in the industry, the skills involved in the market.

Buena parte del desperdicio en las empresas se origina por la carencia de información confiable y oportuna para la toma de decisiones, o al uso incorrecto de los datos disponibles. De aquí la importancia de la información financiera ya que juega un papel fundamental en la organización, en cuanto a que sirve de guía y base para la toma de decisiones ya sea por los gerentes, administradores, o personas que trabajen en la empresa. Se puede decir que esta información es la brújula de una empresa para decidir qué medidas y acciones deben tomar en cuanto a los diversos problemas que pueden ocurrir y así cumplir con los objetivos que la empresa se ha trazado. Hay muchos problemas en la administración de una empresa que no son fáciles de resolver pues intervienen factores diversos interrelacionados unos con otros. La información que nos proporcionan los estados financieros ayuda a resolver tales problemas, sin embargo, la razón real de tal ayuda sólo puede comprenderse luego de haber desarrollado los métodos de análisis de los estados financieros y las características de ellos.
