Ideología, legislación y transformación arquitectónica. El caso del convento agustino de Tacámbaro, Michoacán hoy edificio del Ayuntamiento

Abstract

This investigation develops an historical study about the legislation as a determinant factor for the transformation and/or the conservation of the historical buildings, arguing that legislation of each period contains the ideological principles of the governing groups and this appears in the characteristics of their buildings, being the civil buildings the best example of this. In other words, this study supports the thesis about the existence of a link between the ideology of the government groups, the legislation arising since the mentality of this groups and the architectural characteristics contained in the city buildings and public spaces. The temporality which this study covers begin since sixteenth century to the actuality, checking the politic context that México has lived through its history, we focus on Michoacán State, specifically over the Tierra Caliente, site where the analysis unit was placed, the actual City Hall of Tacámbaro de Codallos municipality. This building today is property of the government but its origin was as a convent of the San Agustin Order, being the second settlement of that Order on Michoacán territory during the first half of the sixteenth century, rapidly gained hierarchy and since that site was administered to the others settlements over the Tierra Caliente Michoacana, becoming in a control space. The destruction, changes of functions and subsequent architectonic transformation during the nineteenth century was the motivation of this research. The emerged legislation in that century was fundamental to effect the property change −from the Clergy to the municipality−.

Esta investigación desarrolla el estudio histórico de la legislación como un factor determinante para la transformación y/o conservación de los edificios históricos, argumentando que la legislación de cada época contiene las bases ideológicas de los grupos gobernantes y ésta se pone de manifiesto en las características de los inmuebles, siendo los edificios sede del poder civil los que de mejor manera lo expresan. En otras palabras, el presente estudio sostiene la tesis de la existencia de un vínculo entre la ideología de los grupos gobernantes, la legislación emanada a partir de la mentalidad de estos grupos y las características arquitectónicas que presentan los edificios sede del poder civil y espacios públicos representativos de las ciudades. El ámbito temporal de estudio abarca desde el siglo XVI a la actualidad, revisando el contexto político que ha vivido México a través de su historia y enfocándonos en el Estado de Michoacán, específicamente sobre la Tierra Caliente, lugar donde se sitúa la unidad de análisis, la actual Casa municipal y sede del Ayuntamiento de Tacámbaro de Codallos. Este edificio hoy perteneciente al gobierno civil tuvo su origen como convento de la Orden agustina, siendo la segunda fundación de esta Orden en territorio michoacano durante la primera mitad del siglo XVI, y que alcanzó rápidamente tal auge que desde ese sitio se administraron las demás fundaciones de la Orden sobre la tierra caliente michoacana, consolidándose como un espacio de poder. La destrucción, cambio de uso y posterior transformación arquitectónica que sufrió el inmueble durante el siglo XIX fue el detonante que abrió paso a esta investigación. Se observó que la legislación surgida durante ese siglo fue fundamental para que se efectuara el cambio de manos −de la Iglesia al Municipio-.
