In this thesis project is presented the process to design the sizing and installation of grid-connected photovoltaic power system in low and medium voltage, as well as the impact that these kind of systems cause into the electrical network in terms of quality energy. In this work it describes the growth of photovoltaic systems in the last years and the importance within the renewables sources, the principal aspects of energetic reform in México and the growth expectation of these type of systems. For the methodology of photovoltaic sizing it’s included the solar geometry characteristics, shading, modules temperature effects, as well as design criteria of each of elements that are part of the photovoltaic systems, sizing and the process of installation, it’s shown the review of the new rates scheme and the repercussion in the return of investment of these kind of installations. It is presented practical cases of photovoltaic sizing for residential, commercial and industrial use, cost analysis, sales and financing schemes, incorporating the automation of a spreadsheet for make the process easier. Finally, it’s shown an impact study that installation have with these kind of distributed generation systems in the electrical network in terms of voltage regulation problems, power losses, effect in power flow, harmonics and the determination of hosting capacity.
