La violencia en el cuerpo femenino a través del discurso literario y fotográfico en La frontera y El norte: frontière américano-mexicane de Patrick Bard

Abstract

In this research, the texts of the novel La frontera (2004) and the photographic collection El norte: frontière americano-mexicane (2002) by the French writer and photographer Patrick Bard are taken as the object of study. From the perspective of the analysis of the different types of violence such as femicide, prostitution and labor exploitation that are reflected in the female body. Which is contextualized in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, in the last decade of the 20th century. In particular, this thesis presents two aspects, the first, a study towards the border between Mexico and the United States from different positions. Among them, the linkage of a border highly related to the capitalist process since the implementation of the Programa de Industrialización Fronteriza (PIF, 1965) by placing American companies in the border strip on the Mexican side, which benefited Mexican and non-Mexican citizens by offering employment. Specifically, this influenced and made visible the participation of women in the economic sector. On the other hand, the study of violence on this border is presented from the focus of border literature. Thus, this section shows an overview that contextualizes some factors that influence violence against border women in the last decade of the 20th century. The second aspect consists of the study of what the patriarchal culture has implied from the feminist discussion and how it has affected violence against women. Another characteristic of this section consists in the discussion of the term femicide which is contextualized with the violence against women that occurred in Ciudad Juárez in the last years of the 20th century. Finally, it also delves into feminist reflections on the female body, which is the central axis of the analysis in the objects of study.

En esta investigación se toman por objetos de estudio los textos la novela La frontera (2004) y la colección fotográfica El norte: frontière américano-mexicane (2002) del escritor y fotógrafo francés Patrick Bard. Para analizar los distintos tipos de violencia como feminicidio, prostitución y explotación laboral que se reflejan el cuerpo femenino. El cual se contextualiza en Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, en la última década del siglo XX. En particular, esta tesis presenta dos vertientes, la primera, un estudio hacia algunos hechos que se han realizado en la línea fronteriza entre México y Estados Unidos. El cual se refleja la vinculación de una frontera altamente relacionada con el proceso capitalista desde la implementación del Programa de Industrialización Fronteriza (PIF, 1965) en el que se benefició a los ciudadanos mexicanos y no mexicanos al ofrecer empleo. En específico, a través de este programa se influyó y visibilizó la participación de la mujer en el sector económico. Por otro lado, se presenta el estudio de la violencia en esta frontera desde la focalización de la literatura fronteriza. Así pues, este apartado muestra un panorama que contextualiza algunos factores sociales que han influido en la violencia a las mujeres fronterizas en la última década del silo XX. La segunda vertiente consiste en el estudio de lo que ha implicado la cultura patriarcal desde la discusión feminista y cómo ha repercutido en la violencia hacia las mujeres. Otra característica de este apartado consiste en la discusión del término feminicidio el cual se contextualiza con la violencia hacia las mujeres ocurrida en Ciudad Juárez en los últimos años del siglo XX. Por último, también se ahonda sobre las reflexiones feministas en torno al cuerpo femenino, el cual es el eje central del análisis en los objetos de estudio.
