Adolescence and youth are considered the healthiest of human life periods. The impact of the Youth with a history of prematurity are not confined only to the immediate neonatal period or medium term. The delay in growth and development can continue into adulthood. The total antioxidant capacity (TAC) is a parameter that characterizes the amount of antioxidant activities present in the serum of young. Objective. To assess the state of the total antioxidant capacity in young individuals with a history of prematurity. Material and methods. Cross-sectional study in 80 young people with age between 18 and 25 years and apparently healthy. Youth were divided according to the history of prematurity (prematurity group) and group born at term (control group). An written informed consent was signed by each participant in this protocol. They were underwent an interrogation directed investigating history of diabetes, hypertension or kidney disease. Blood pressure, weight and height were measured. In addition, to each person was collected a sample of 7 ml of venous blood in vacutainer tubes without anticoagulant (red) for quantifying serum glucose, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL) , total protein, uric acid (UA) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC).
La adolescencia y la juventud son consideradas los períodos más sanos de la vida humana. Las repercusiones del jóven con antecedente de prematurez no se confinan sólo al período neonatal inmediato o al mediano plazo. El retardo en el crecimiento y desarrollo puede continuar hasta la edad adulta. La capacidad antioxidante total (CAT) es un parámetro que caracteriza la suma de las actividades antioxidantes, presentes en el suero de jóvenes. Objetivo. Evaluar el estado de la capacidad antioxidante total en individuos jóvenes con el antecedente de prematurez. Material y Métodos. Estudio transversal comparativo en 80 jóvenes con edad entre 18 y 25 años aparentemente sanos. Los jóvenes se dividieron de acuerdo al antecedente de prematurez (grupo prematurez) y grupo que nació a término (grupo control). Se les pidió que leyeran y firmaran la carta de consentimiento informado y una vez aceptada su participación (firma del consentimiento informado) se les realizó un interrogatorio dirigido investigando antecedentes de diabetes, hipertensión o enfermedad renal. Se les midió la presión arterial y la medición del peso y talla para el cálculo del IMC. Además a cada persona se le colectó dos muestras de 7 mL de sangre venosa en tubo Vacutainer sin anticoagulante (rojo) para realizar la cuantificación en suero de glucosa, colesterol total (CT), triglicéridos (TG), lipoproteínas de alta densidad (HDL), proteínas totales, ácido úrico (AU) y capacidad antioxidante total (CAT).
