Diabetes Mellitus (DM) has become one of the major public health problems worldwide and the second at the national level. Diabetes is an initiating factor and the most common cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Magnesium (Mg) is the fourth most abundant cation in the body and the second most important. It is related to multiple enzymatic, protein and energy utilization functions. In DM, it has been observed that it is regularly found in low concentrations and in cases in which it is in normal levels, the glycemia in these patients is better regulated. Therefore, it is sought to find a relationship between a diet rich in Mg and delayed loss of renal function in patients with type 2 DM.
La Diabetes Mellitus (DM) se ha convertido en uno de los principales problemas de salud pública a nivel mundial y en el segundo a nivel nacional. La diabetes es un factor iniciador y la causa más frecuente de enfermedad renal crónica (ERC). El magnesio (Mg) es el cuarto catión más abundante en el organismo y el de segunda mayor importancia. Está relacionado con múltiples funciones enzimáticas, proteicas y de aprovechamiento de energía. En DM se ha observado que regularmente se encuentra en concentraciones bajas y en casos en los que se encuentra en niveles normales, la glucemia en estos pacientes se encuentra mejor regulada. Por lo que se busca encontrar una relación entre una dieta rica en Mg y el retraso de la pérdida en la función renal en pacientes con DM tipo 2.
