In this work, the chemical reactivity of flunixin (1) against ZnCl2 is described. ZnCl2 is a metallic salt with reactivity towards carboxylate groups. From 1 the carboxylate 2 in situ was generated, which in the presence of the metallic salt, the formation of the diamagnetic complex [Zn(flunixinate)2] (3) was facilitated. The characterization of the complex 3 by its physical methods involving solubility and fusion point, as well as, by spectroscopic methods including nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared; and by mass spectrometry was carried out. Additionally, compound 1 was analyzed by single crystal x-ray diffraction. This is the first report of the crystallographic study of flunixin (1), and its reactivity in coordination chemistry.
En el presente trabajo se describe la reactividad química del flunixin (1) frente a ZnCl2, una sal metalica con reactividad hacia grupos carboxilato. A partir de 1 se generó al carboxilato 2 in situ, el cual, en presencia de la sal metálica propició la formación del complejo diamagnético [Zn(flunixinato). La caracterización del complejo 3 se llevó a cabo mediante métodos físicos como solubilidad y punto de fusión; por métodos espectroscópicos como Resonancia Magnética Nuclear e infrarrojo, así como por espectrometría de masa. Adicionalmente, el compuesto 1 se analizó por difracción de rayos X de monocristal. Este es el primer reporte de estudio cristalográfico del flunixin (1) y de su reactividad en química de coordinación.
