The present work describes the chemical reactivity of the carboxylate group present in sodium ketoprofen towards a Lewis acid such as ZnCl2, a metal salt with reactivity towards carboxylate groups. From the ketoprofen (A) the carboxylate (B) was formed in situ, which, in the presence of ZnCl2 favored the synthesis of the hexaketoprofenooxotetrazinc (II) complex (C). The characterization of the complex (C) was carried out by physical methods such as solubility and melting point; and using analytical techniques such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H and 13C) and infrared (FT-IR).
