Tobacco and alcohol are two widely used legal drugs and social acceptance. Despite the efforts made in recent years to reduce its consumption, the problem has not only persisted, but has increased in extent, in part because the dissemination of information regarding its harmful effects has not been sufficient to reduce the magnitude of the problem. The objective was to determine the prevalence of alcohol and tobacco consumption in adolescents and young people who attend an outpatient clinic at the Tacámbaro Health Center, Michoacán. Methodology: this is a study with a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional approach. Inclusion criteria: adolescents and young people between 13 and 25 years of age who attended the consultation of the Tacámbaro Health Center as well as pregnant adolescents were included. Results: in 34% the age of onset of alcohol consumption was between 16 to 18 years, the age of onset of tobacco consumption was between 16 to 18 years in 28%. With those who consume alcohol and tobacco, young people and adolescents were friends. 58% reported taking it at least once a month or less. Conclusion: The starting age of adolescents and young people in the consumption of alcohol and tobacco was between 16 and 18 years. The most consumed beverage is beer.
El tabaco y el alcohol son dos drogas de uso legal de amplia difusión y aceptación social. A pesar de los esfuerzos realizados en los últimos años para disminuir su consumo, el problema no sólo se ha mantenido, sino que ha aumentado su extensión, en parte porque la difusión de información respecto a sus efectos nocivos no ha sido suficiente para reducir la magnitud del problema. Objetivo fue determinar la prevalencia de consumo de alcohol y tabaco en los adolescentes y jóvenes que asistan a consulta externa del Centro de Salud Tacámbaro, Michoacán. Metodología: se trata de un estudio con enfoque cuantitativo, descriptivo, transversal. Criterios de inclusión: se incluyeron adolescentes y jóvenes de 13 a 25 años que asistieron a la consulta del Centro de Salud de Tacámbaro así como a las adolescentes embarazadas. Resultados: en el 34% la edad de inicio de consumo de alcohol fue entre 16 a 18 años, la edad de inicio de consumo de tabaco fue entre los 16 a 18 años en el 28%. Con quienes consumen alcohol y tabaco los jóvenes y adolescentes fueron los amigos. el 58% refirieron tomar al menos una vez o menos al mes. Conclusión: La edad de inicio de los adolescentes y jóvenes en el consumo de alcohol y tabaco fue entre los 16 a 18 años. La bebida de mayor consumo es la cerveza.
