Calidad de vida del cuidador primario de paciente con enfermedad mental

Abstract

In Mexico every day there are more people diagnosed with mental illness. These diseases are chronic and cause loss of independence, for this reason it is important the primary caregiver (PC) who does not receive any remuneration leaving aside his personal life to devote to the care of his family, a situation that can change the perception of their quality of life (QL). Objective: To describe the QL of the PC of patients with mental illness, to identify the PC of patients with mental illness. Material and Methods: quantitative, non-experimental, prospective and cross-sectional study, non-probabilistic sampling for convenience, shows 76 PC of patients with mental illness; WHOQOL-BREF instrument for QL. Descriptive statistics, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) V.25 was used. Results: It was found that 36 (47.4%) of the PC were between 31 and 50 years old, 40 (52.6%) of the PC were female, 66 (86.8%) had been primary caregivers for more than three years, 43 (56.6%) reported being married; 15 (19.7%) mentioned that they live with a spouse, 42 (55.3) indicated that they are not in paid employment, 20 (26). 3%) commented on being housewives, referring to QL 64 (84.2%) showed high QL, and by domains: in the physical health domain 64 (84.2%) high QL and also in the psychological health domain with 41 (53.9%), while in the domains: social relations with 51 (67.1%) and the environmental domain 49 (64.5%) the perception of QL was low. Conclusions: It was found that the PC has high QL in general, however, in the domains environment and psychological health the perception of QL was low, so it is important that the PC receives comprehensive care and support networks, to delegate care and that this contributes to changing the perception of their QL.

En México cada día hay más personas diagnosticadas con enfermedades mentales. Dichas enfermedades son crónicas y ocasionan perdida de independencia, por este motivo es importante el cuidador primario (CP) quien no recibe remuneración alguna dejando de lado su vida personal para dedicarse al cuidado de su familiar, situación que puede cambiar la percepción de su calidad de vida (CV). Objetivo: Describir la CV del CP de pacientes con enfermedad mental, Identificar al CP de pacientes con enfermedad mental. Material y Métodos: estudio cuantitativo, no experimental, prospectivo y transversal, Muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia, muestra 76 CP de pacientes con enfermedad mental; instrumento WHOQOL-BREF para CV. Estadística descriptiva, se utilizó Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) V.25. Resultados: se encontró que la edad de los CP el 36 (47.4%) tenían entre 31 y 50 años de edad, 40 (52.6 %) de CP eran del sexo femenino, 66 (86.8%) con tiempo como CP por más de tres años, 43 (56.6%) refirieron estar casados; 15 (19.7%) mencionaron que viven con esposa(o), 42 (55.3) señalaron que no cuentan con empleo remunerado, 20 (26.3%) comentaron ser amas de casa, referente a CV 64 (84.2%) mostraron CV alta, y por dominios: en el dominio salud física 64 (84.2%) CV alta y también en el dominio salud psicológica con 41 (53.9%), mientras que en los dominios: relaciones sociales con 51 (67.1%) y el dominio ambiente 49 (64.5%) la percepción de CV fue baja. Conclusiones: Se encontró que el CP poseen alta CV en general, sin embargo, en los dominios ambiente y salud psicológica la percepción de la CV fue baja, por lo que es importante que el CP reciba atención integral y que cuente con redes de apoyo, para delegar el cuidado y que con esto se contribuya al cambio de la percepción de su CV.
