The most forest species in México are being infested by mistletoe. This plant is dispersed mainly by birds and success of the infestation is related to increased stomatal conductance compared to the host. It has also been shown to have an effect on the physical properties of wood. However, knowledge about the mechanism of infestation and anchor, and the effect of this plant on anatomy of their host is scarce. Therefore the goal of this paper was to describe the branches wood anatomy of Populous alba, Fraxinus uhdei and Salix bonplandiana infested by Psittacanthus sp.. The parameters considered were live macroscopic characteristics of the hosts and mistletoe such as bark color and shape and color of the tumor. Microscopic characteristics were determined in the zone named as before and after infection. Finally was determined the optimal time of softened to zone interaction The method consisted in subjecting the samples infested high pressure (120 ° C and 1 kg cm-2) and various softening times, (1, 3, 5 hours). The results show that the bark of mistletoe and host have different color in this characteristic is observed at naked eye. To level 2 and 3 of infestation was observed that the growth of tumor was to the side of mistletoe, while for level 4 the host wrap up to the mistletoe. Another result was that after 5 hrs. of softened the mistletoe was removed from the branch and without damaging to the host. We also observed a change in the xylem of the infested branch by mistletoe, altering the direction of the grain of wood and forming a structure that looks like rosette. For level 2 and 3 cuts by microtome were made before and after infestation (tumor) at 25 microns. In the cuts of level 2 of poplar was observed significant difference between vessels diameter.
En la actualidad la mayoría de las especies forestales son infestadas por muérdago. Esta planta hemiparásita se logra dispersar principalmente por las aves y el éxito de la infestación está relacionado con un incremento en la conductancia estomática comparada con la del hospedero. Además se ha observado que tiene un efecto sobre las propiedades físicas de la madera. Sin embargo, el conocimiento sobre el mecanismo de infestación y de anclaje, así como el efecto de dicha planta en la anatomía de hospedero es escaso. Por tal motivo el presente trabajo tiene la finalidad describir anatómicamente la madera de ramas infestadas por Psittacanthus sp. de Populus alba, Fraxinus uhdei y Salix bonplandiana. Para tal efecto se determinó en vivo características macroscópicas de los hospederos y el muérdago como fue forma y color de corteza, forma y color de la tumoración y punto de interacción entre ambos organismos. Además de las características microscópicas antes y después de la infestación así como de la zona de infestación. Finalmente se determinó el tiempo óptimo de ablandado y así poder lograr el desprendimiento del muérdago de su hospedero en diferentes etapas de su desarrollo. El método consistió en someter las muestras infestadas a alta presión (120 °C y 1 kg cm-2) y a distintos tiempos de ablandamiento, (1, 3, 5 horas). Los resultados muestran que la corteza del muérdago y del hospedero en los diferentes niveles de desarrollo se pudo diferenciar a simple vista, en el nivel 2 y 3 de infestación se logró identificar un abultamiento hacia un lado de la rama del hospedero, mientras que, para el nivel 4 se observó un envolvimiento del hospedero hacia el muérdago. Otro resultado es que a las 5 horas se logró el desprendimiento del muérdago sin dañar al hospedero. También se pudo observar una modificación en el xilema de la parte infestada por muérdago, alterando la dirección del hilo y formando una roseta.
