The region that now occupies us it is a part of the territory that was known as New Biscay in the colonial time, which is to the north of the Mexican current Republic. It is about the wide area that corresponds to the modern state of Chihuahua that had a very narrow relationship with the area of Durango. The territory was also a frontier region, where the Spaniards established the limits in the Big river of the North. Meanwhile, to their possessions that they were more to the north they considered them as advanced positions. One of the points of the frontier was and it continues being El Paso of the North, today Ciudad Juárez that marked the entrance to the neighbor Kingdom from New Mexico. New Biscay was integrated by a mountain great area that is described later on and a highland region that is of particular importance for this work. These areas sheltered to the nomadic groups that were study reason. Both regions were the cradle of important traditions and in them many of the cultures that are mentioned in the text flourished.
La región que ahora nos ocupa es una parte del territorio que se conoció como la Nueva Vizcaya en la época colonial, la cual se encuentra al norte de la actual República Mexicana. Se trata de la amplia zona que corresponde al moderno estado de Chihuahua, que tenía una relación muy estrecha con el área de Durango. El territorio también fue una región de frontera, donde los españoles establecieron los límites en el río Grande del Norte. Mientras tanto, a sus posesiones que estaban más al norte las consideraron como puestos avanzados. Uno de los puntos de la frontera fue y sigue siendo El Paso del Norte, hoy Ciudad Juárez, que marcaba la entrada al vecino reino del Nuevo México. La Nueva Vizcaya estuvo integrada por una gran área serrana que se describe más adelante y una región de altiplano que es de particular importancia para este trabajo. Estas áreas abrigaron a los grupos nómadas que fueron motivo de estudio. Ambas regiones fueron la cuna de importantes tradiciones y en ellas florecieron muchas de las culturas que se mencionan en el texto.
