Due to the increasing demand for fossil fuels and the decrease in their reserves that has generated the needing to create alternative energy sources, among which is biodiesel, it can be obtained from the transesterification of vegetable oils through alcohol and a homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysts depending on the phase they are in. The study of natural terpenes in coordination chemistry has been carried out obtain the (μ4-oxo)-hexakis(μ2-kaurenato)-tetra-zinc(II) (1) and (μ4-oxo)-hexakis(μ2-beyerenato)-tetrazinc(II) (2), which can have catalytic activity in transesterification reactions. In the present work describe the purification and characterization of kaurenoic acid (6) and beyerenoic acid (7), the obtaining and characterization of its coordination compounds (1 and 2) its catalyst in transesterification reactions and the study of reaction conditions for obtaining 98% of FAME, a value that is above what is established by EN 14214.
