This investigation studies the programs iconográficos that represented the sea in the Baroque context of the XVII and XVIII centuries, and which its importance was in the culture emblemática of both Spain. Our central focus is an analysis iconográfico on the topic of the sea in the books of Spanish emblems, the ceremonies public novohispanas and the contained speech in these. To identify the Spanish emblems of this thematic one and that they were used in turn in the emblemática novohispana, we base ourselves on the most representative works in the time. Authors like Sebastian of Covarrubias, Francisco Gómez of the Ditch, Francisco Núñez of Cepeda and Diego Saavedra Fajardo included in its works allusive emblems to the sea, through that which the virtues of the Spanish Crown and their ".deberes highlighted.. as Christian monarchy in Europe and in Overseas.
Esta investigación estudia los programas iconográficos que representaron el mar en el contexto barroco de los siglos XVII y XVIII, y cuál fue su importancia en la cultura emblemática de ambas Españas. Nuestro enfoque central es un análisis iconográfico sobre el tema del mar en los libros de emblemas españoles, las ceremonias públicas novohispanas y el discurso contenido en éstas. Para identificar los emblemas españoles de esta temática y que fueron a su vez utilizados en la emblemática novohispana, nos basamos en las obras más representativas de la época. Autores como Sebastián de Covarrubias, Francisco Gómez de la Reguera, Francisco Núñez de Cepeda y Diego Saavedra Fajardo incluyeron en sus obras emblemas alusivos al mar, a través de lo cuales destacaban las virtudes de la Corona española y sus ‟deberes‟‟ como monarquía cristiana en Europa y en Ultramar.
