Análisis social de la Revolución Mexicana a partir de la fotografía. El caso de Michoacán (1911-1913)

Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to show, through official, bibliographic and newspaper sources, the use of photography as a historical document to carry out an investigation into the social history of the revolutionary process that the state of Michoacán experienced. We know that the text has been preponderant in studies concerning this process, however, when it comes to the history of events, images always add something. The information that will serve as the basis for the present investigation is part of the Fototeca of the Institute of Historical Research of the UMSNH, specifically the local collections: "Dr. Gerardo Sánchez Díaz "and" Jesús García Tapia "; as well as the "Cachú- Ramírez Juan" fund of the Department of Information and Documentation of the Audiovisual Culture of the Benemérita Autonomous University of Puebla; Similarly, the Casasola Archive belonging to the National Photo Library of INAH was consulted. This work is an analysis of the revolutionary process that the state of Michoacán experienced as of 1911. I clarify that what is sought here is not to carry out a study on the history of photography in the revolutionary era, but rather to build a historical narrative with photographs, that is, a study of the genre better known as "photohistory" by John Mraz. An investigation in which the basic tasks of photohistory (representing the past with photographs) are essentially the same as those of historiography (representing the past with words): research and documentation.

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo central mostrar por medio de El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo central mostrar por medio de fuentes oficiales, bibliográficas y hemerográficas el uso de la fotografía como documento histórico para realizar una investigación de historia social1 del proceso revolucionario que vivió el estado de Michoacán. Sabemos que el texto ha sido preponderante en estudios referentes a dicho proceso, sin embargo, cuando se trata de la historia de los acontecimientos las imágenes siempre añaden algo.2 La información que servirá de base a la presente investigación forma parte de la Fototeca del Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas de la UMSNH, específicamente las colecciones locales: “Dr. Gerardo Sánchez Díaz” y “Jesús García Tapia”; así como el fondo “Cachú-Ramírez Juan” del Departamento de Información y Documentación de la Cultura Audiovisual de la Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla; de igual forma se consultó el Archivo Casasola perteneciente a la Fototeca Nacional del INAH. Este trabajo es un análisis al proceso revolucionario que vivió el estado de Michoacán a partir de 1911. Aclaro que lo que aquí se busca no es realizar un estudio sobre la historia de la fotografía en la época revolucionaria, sino más bien construir una narrativa histórica con fotografías, es decir, un estudio del género mejor conocido como “fotohistoria” de John Mraz.3 Una investigación en la que las tareas básicas de la fotohistoria (representar el pasado con fotografías) son esencialmente las mismas que las de la historiografía (representar el pasado con palabras): investigación y documentación.
