The preschool education in Mexico was recognized as another academic level for the individual's formation starting from 1981 when its obligatoriedad settled down; from then on the preschool one has transformed into an important step to attend the primary school. La educación preescolar en México fue reconocida como otro nivel académico para la formación del individuo a partir de 1981 cuando se estableció su obligatoriedad; desde entonces el preescolar se ha convertido en un importante peldaño para asistir a la escuela primaria. Antes de 1881 su demanda era relativamente poca, los padres de familia se mostraban aún desconfiados de enviar a sus hijos e hijas de tan corta edad a la escuela. Por mucho tiempo se creía que la mejor educación para el niño menor de seis años estaba en su casa, cerca de la madre y su familia. Los tiempos cambiaron y con éstos las necesidades de muchas familia. Debido a que las madres debían y en muchos casos querían cooperar con la economía doméstica comenzaron a crecer los Jardines de Niños y las Guarderías, paralelamente se comenzó a dar mayor prioridad a la educación de los niños en edad preescolar. Una de las principales razones fue que los maestros y las maestras de la escuela veían una gran diferencia entre los niños que habían tenido una educación preescolar antes de comenzar la escuela primaria. Aquellos niños que habían asistido como mínimo un año al preescolar tenían menos dificultades en el proceso de la lecto-escritura durante el primer ciclo escolar de la primaria.
