Cambio tecnológico de la industria manufacturera en Chile, Colombia y México durante el periodo 1990-2014: un análisis a través de frontera estocástica

Abstract

The manufacturing industry is an important sector in the economy of Chile, Colombia and Mexico, since it represents a considerable part of the GDP, therefore it is of vital importance to study it in order to achieve an adequate development; therefore, the objective of this thesis is to determine how the factors work, capital and technological change have influenced the production of the manufacturing industry in Chile, Colombia and Mexico during the period of 1990-2014; For this, the data in relation to the labor factor, capital factor and available production of the manufacturing sector were taken from the World Bank database and the LAKLEMS database, with these bases a balanced panel was built, which has a temporality from 1990-2014 and is made up of the number of workers (L), the capital stock (K) and the GDP contributed by the manufacturing industry (Q), once the panel was constructed the variable stochastic frontier methodology was used in the time for panel data using a translogarithmic specification to calculate technological change in Chile, Colombia and Mexico. With the methodology described above, it was possible to observe how the factors of capital production, labor and technological change have a positive impact on the production of the manufacturing industry in the countries studied. With the results obtained, it can be concluded that it is necessary for the manufacturing sector to invest in new technologies, in addition to having trained personnel.

La industria manufacturera es un sector importante en la economía de Chile, Colombia y México, pues representa una parte considerable del PIB, por ello es de vital importancia estudiarlo para lograr un desarrollarlo adecuado; por tanto en esta tesis tiene como objetivo determinar de qué manera han incidido los factores trabajo, capital y cambio tecnológico en la producción de la industria manufacturera en Chile, Colombia y México durante el periodo de 1990-2014; para ello se tomaron los datos en relación al factor trabajo, factor capital y producción disponible del sector manufacturero de la base de datos del Banco Mundial y la base de datos de LA KLEMS, con dichas bases se construyó un panel equilibrado, el cual tiene una temporalidad de 1990-2014 y está formado por el número de trabajadores (L), el stock de capital (K) y el PIB que aporta la industria manufacturera (Q), una vez construido el panel se utilizó la metodología de frontera estocástica variable en el tiempo para datos panel utilizando una especificación traslogarítmica para calcular el cambio tecnológico en Chile, Colombia y México. Con la metodología anteriormente descrita se pudo observar como los factores de producción capital, trabajo y cambio tecnológico tienen una incidencia positiva en la producción de la industria manufacturera de los países estudiados. Con los resultados obtenidos se puede concluir que es necesario que el sector manufacturero invierta en nuevas tecnologías, además de contar con personal capacitado.
