Most of the bridges in the national highway network have a superstructure simply supported on the substructure. In general, the substructure geometry is of the frame type, wall-type or a bent cap connected to the top of a column. When a bridge system is subjected to an earthquake, the piers are the structural elements with the highest risk to suffer damage. It‘s important to study the alternatives of seismic reinforcement. The main object of the present work is to study the efficiency of the reinforced concrete (RC) jacketing as a reinforcement option for RC wall-type piers. Have been studied 64 bridge cases with different length of the bay, high and width of the pier. For the seismic demand, we have 7 registers with magnitude 7 or higher in the Richter Scale, all over the Mexican Pacific Coast. To assess the efficiency, fragilities curves were evaluated based on the substructure capacities to shear and flexural behavior, and the selection of the demand. As a result, this work allows measuring the probability of reach a limit state of damage as a function of the parameters of CR jacket, such as thickness and amount of reinforced steel. It was found that the main variable to able predict the behavior, it is the high of the wall-type pier.
La mayoría de los puentes que forman la red carretera nacional tienen superestructuras simplemente apoyas sobre subestructuras tipo marco, tipo muro o constituidas por una sola columna. En la ocurrencia de terremotos las pilas de los puentes son los elementos estructurales más susceptibles a presentar daños, en la mayoría de los casos su estabilidad y mecanismos de colapso quedan definidos por la resistencia y ductilidad de estos elementos. Una vez que, por la acción de un temblor tienen algún daño, es importante estudiar la efectividad de diferentes alternativas de refuerzo. El objetivo del trabajo es estudiar la eficiencia que presentan los encamisados de concreto reforzado (CR) como sistema de refuerzo de pilas tipo muro de CR. Se estudiaron 64 casos de puentes donde se varió la longitud del claro, ancho y altura de las pilas y el porcentaje de acero de la camisa de CR. La demanda sísmica corresponde a un conjunto de 7 acelerogramas con magnitud mayor o igual a 7 registrados en las costas del Pacífico de México escalados a tres periodos de retorno. La eficiencia del sistema de refuerzo se estimó mediante curvas de fragilidad, determinándose la capacidad de las pilas a cortante y flexión mediante análisis estáticos no lineales, para finalmente determinar su desempeño mediante el espectro de capacidad. Como resultado, el estudio permite cuantificar la variación de la probabilidad de alcanzar un estado límite de daño determinado como función de los parámetros del encamisado como espesor y cantidad de acero de refuerzo. Se encontró que una variable fundamental que determina las características del encamisado es la altura de las pilas.
