Evolución del campo de esfuerzos y la génesis de la mineralogía, formada en las distintas fases del fallamiento, en las rocas de los yacimientos geotérmicos del Lago de Cuitzeo, México

Abstract

To comprehend the structural evolution of a geothermal zone is necessary to understand the variations of the stresses that have affected it over time, which control the opening and closing of faults and fractures that allow the circulation of fluids in the probable geothermal deposit. From the tectonic point of view, Lake Cuitzeo is located in the region belonging to the southern limit of the Zacapu-Salvatierra fault zone, as well as within the western sector of the Morelia-Acambay active fault system, which has a preferential orientation EW and longitudinally cuts the central part of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. On the banks of the lake there are four geothermal zones (Araró, San Agustin del Maiz, San Agustin del Pulque and Chucándiro). The objective of the present work is to define the evolution of the geothermal systems present in the area based on the regional fault system, the field of current efforts, and the interaction with the oldest structures. For this, the structural affectation of faults associated to different fillings and the appearance of newly formed minerals during the ruptures thereof are defined. In addition, by means of the mineral characterization (filling and neo-formed) present in the structures, as well as their dating, an evolution of the thermalism related to the kinematics in the area is proposed.

Para comprender la evolución estructural de una zona geotérmica es necesario entender las variaciones de los esfuerzos que la han afectado a través del tiempo, mismos que controlan la apertura y cierre de las fallas y fracturas que permiten la circulación de los fluidos en el probable yacimiento geotérmico. Desde el punto de vista tectónico, el Lago de Cuitzeo se localiza en la región perteneciente al límite sur de la zona de fallas Zacapu-Salvatierra, así como dentro del sector Oeste del sistema de fallas activas Morelia-Acambay, que tiene una orientación preferencial E-W y corta longitudinalmente la parte central de la Faja Volcánica Transmexicana (FVTM). En las márgenes del lago se conocen unas cuatro zonas geotérmicas (Araró, San Agustín del Maíz, San Agustín del Pulque y Chucándiro). El objetivo del presente trabajo es definir la evolución de los sistemas geotérmicos presentes en la zona en función del sistema de fallas regionales, del campo de esfuerzos actual, y de la interacción con las estructuras más antiguas. Para ello se define la afectación estructural de fallas asociadas a distintos rellenos y la aparición de minerales neoformados durante las rupturas de las mismas. Además, por medio de la caracterización mineral (de relleno y neoformados) presente en las estructuras, así como de su fechamiento, se propone una evolución del termalismo relacionada con la cinemática en el área.
