El aumento en la demanda de un tratamiento ortodóntico cada día más corto, los ortodoncistas se han dedicado a estudiar opciones que permitan lograr esta alternativa o posibilidad desde el punto de vista biológico. Materiales y métodos. 5 pacientes de sexo femenino de entre 15 y 25 años de edad, con tratamiento de ortodoncia con brackets Roth .022, previas extracciones de primeros o segundos premolares y con un seguimiento con una secuencia de arcos establecida, hasta el arco 19 x 25 Niti. Se escogió un lado de cada arcada azar para realizar las microosteoperforaciones y con activaciones de retracción cada 2 semanas para valorar la diferencia en la tasa de movimiento. Resultados. Los resultados mostraron que tanto para el lado control como para el lado de las microosteoperforaciones ambos son efectivos con tendencia mínima y no significativa de efectividad al grupo bajo el tratamiento con perforaciones respecto al convencional. Discusión. Se consiguió un efecto sistémico de los mediadores de la inflamación provocado por las microosteoperforaciones locales, mostrando una extensión de la reparación. Deben considerarse también otros factores que pudieran influir en la aceleración del tratamiento. El uso de microosteoperforaciones por medio de Propel es un procedimiento poco invasivo que acelera el movimiento dental durante el tratamiento ortodóncico.
