The XP-endo Finisher® file is a recent instrument presented as an auxiliary alternative in the final cleaning during the root canal treatment. Manufactured with an exclusive FKG Dentaire SA alloy called NiTi MaxWire, XP-endo Finisher® is highly flexible and reacts to the temperature increase by modifying its initial shape. Aim: To compare the topographic characteristics of the XP-endo Finisher® instrument before and after its use under the manufacturer’s guidelines. Material and methods: Experimental, descriptive and comparative study. Six new XP-endo Finisher® files were included, which were divided into three evaluation groups: GI = two new XP-endo Finisher® files, G2 = two XP-endo Finisher® files used each one of them in the treatment of a single root canal tooth, G3 = two XP-endo Finisher® files used each one of them in the treatment of a molar with three root canals. The topographic and chemical analysis of the XP-endo Finisher® files in all the evaluation groups was carried out by scanning electron microscopy (JEOL JSM-7600F model) obtaining images at 40x, 100x and 250x. The evaluation of the images was carried out by a survey applied to specialists in endodontics. Results: The statistical analysis shows no significant differences among the wear, roughness and cracks in the middle third and the tip of the XP-endo Finisher® instrument before and after its use. The chemical analysis shows variable percentages of nickel and titanium in different areas of the instrument. Conclusion: The topographic characteristics of the XP-endo Finisher® instrument did not show significant changes when the comparison of its receipt conditions and after its clinical use was done. |
