The sewage contamination that receives rivers is a problem due to population growth and poor urban planning, which has affected water quality. The wastewater discharges alter the Dissolved Oxygen´s balance in the water, causing the death of aquatic life; that´s why it was designed a system to mitigate this effect, being a self-purification system that could be installed on the rivers using a mechanical hydraulic mill, using the energy of the stream to move it and favoring the transfer of oxygen. In this investigation, it was worked with three flows (0.4 L/s, 0.22 L/s and 0.13 L/s) and four slopes (0%, 1%, 2% and 3%) in an open channel, simulating a river, and tests were performed with water and wastewater, removing oxygen with Na2SO3, and then measuring the air capacity and system degradation. The Dissolved Oxygen´s concentrations were obtained from 3.4 to 6.3 mg/L for reaireción, range where whole results remained, and was operated at a temperature of 23 ºC and neutral pH. COD removals were measured on average 17%. This system facilitates input Dissolved Oxygen in water by microbubbles to oxidize organic contaminants, with the benefit of being a sustainable system which avoids the use of electrical energy, and improving water quality.
