The main goal of this work was to optimize the temperature in the synthesis of carbon nanotubes using α and β-pinene which are obtained from the distillation of turpentine, and ferrocene as catalyst. The CNT synthesis was carried out by the spray pyrolysis process, evaluating a temperature interval of 700 to 1000 ºC, maintaining the catalyst concentration and the flow of the carrier gas constant. The synthesized CNT were characterized by SEM/EDAX, TEM, XRD, TGA and Raman spectroscopy. Once the optimal synthesis temperature and the best carbon source were determined in order to produce the most crystalline CNT (800 ºC and α- pinene), Ni, Pd and Rh nanoparticles were deposited on the CNT without purifying and purified by acid media lixiviation. These materials were characterized by SEM/EDAX, TEM, XRD, and TGA. The synthesized materials were evaluated as catalyst in the CO oxidation using a packed-bed tubular reactor coupled to a gas chromatograph used to monitor the reaction. The apparent activation energies of both systems were determined.
