Many studies and projects have been focused on the wastewater treatment processes through anaerobic processes, in which the effects caused by the most relevant physicochemical variables such as pH, conductivity, alkalinity, DQO, suspended solids and AGV's have been studied. However, the anaerobic sludge behavior has not been studied enough due to the complexity of the existing microbial populations in the sludge as well as the poor information about the particle size, their size distribution and the caused effect of these variables on the capacity of the organic matter removal and the sludge aging time. A comprehensive study that includes the most relevant physicochemical variables for the control of an anaerobic process, the sludge behavior and its effect on the removal capacity and the correlations between the various variables, will allow visualize a panorama and understand the anaerobic sludge behavior in controlled conditions during a period of 210 days of operation. During the 210 days of operation, the capacity of the organic matter removal was not affected with the decrease in sludge concentration but it was directly affected by the temperature since the temperature decrease caused a removal capacity increase, which was the opposite to the reported observations in the researches focused on anaerobic digestion as well as the production of biogas was zero. Likewise, it was possible to determine that the size of sludge granule decreased every 25 days being this the aging time, however when the diameter of the granule decreased. The capacity of the organic matter removal increased due to the increase in the surface area available and the facility that the substrate had to diffuse through the granule.
Se han desarrollado diversos trabajos enfocados al tratamiento de agua residual mediante procesos anaerobios, en los cuales se han estudiado los efectos causados por las variables fisicoquímicas de interés tales como: pH, conductividad, alcalinidad, DQO, sólidos suspendidos, AGV´s. Sin embargo, el comportamiento del lodo anaerobio no ha sido del todo estudiado debido a la complejidad de las poblaciones microbianas presentes en el lodo, así como el desconocimiento del tamaño de partícula y distribución de tamaños; y el efecto causado de estas variables sobre la capacidad de remoción de materia orgánica y el tiempo de envejecimiento del lodo. Un estudio integral donde estén involucradas las variables fisicoquímicas más relevantes para el control de un proceso anaerobio, el comportamiento del lodo y su efecto sobre la capacidad de remoción y las correlaciones entre las diversas variables permitirán visualizar un panorama y entender el comportamiento de los lodos anaerobios en condiciones controladas durante un periodo de 210 días de operación. Durante los 210 días de operación se observó que la capacidad de remoción de materia orgánica no se vio afectada con la disminución en la concentración de lodo, sin embargo, fue afectada directamente por la temperatura ya que al disminuir esta, la capacidad de remoción aumentó, caso contrario a lo reportado en investigaciones enfocadas a la digestión anaerobia, así como también la producción de biogás fue nula. Se determinó que el tamaño de gránulo de lodo disminuía cada 25 días siendo este el tiempo de envejecimiento natural, sin embargo, cuando el diámetro del gránulo disminuye la capacidad de remoción de materia orgánica aumentaba debido al incremento en el área superficial disponible y la facilidad que tenía el sustrato para difundirse a través del gránulo.
