La música de los cristeros. Canciones en torno a la guerra cristera. Colima, Jalisco y Michoacán (1926-1929)

Abstract

The guerrillas guarding involved in the conflict between the catholic church and the Mexican government from 1926 to 1929, better known as the cristero war, made use of the instruments of struggle and defense that they had at their disposal. They not only used firearms, improvised bombs, means of animal transport, printed propaganda, but also songs that served as instruments of protest and as carriers of messages that accompanied them throughout the three years of the cristero war. The sources that recorded the cristero conflict, for the most part, testify to the constant use of songs of various genres that permeated the different facets of this struggle that had its greatest peak in the central-western zone of the Mexican Republic. That is why throughout this thesis work, songs about the cristero war will be extractes from the avaliarle sources, grouping them in the genres that were arranged for this purpose, namely, cristero songs of religious origin (hymns, devotionals, and penitential) and cristero songs of secular origin (parodies, recreational and corridos), not without first providing a general overview of the factors that led to the outbreak of this war. Likewise, its lyrics will be analyzed starting from the context in which they were used in order to offer an invitation to understand the cristiada through this form of expression through song. Finally, and as a contributing part of this research, each and every one of the cristero songs discussed above will be transcribed into musical notation to give as a result a true cristero songbook that integrates not only the lyrics of these songs, as until now only has done, but also the corresponding scores with their respective historical support.

Los guerrilleros involucrados en el conflicto entre la iglesia católica y el gobierno mexicano de 1926 a 1929, mejor conocido como la guerra cristera, hicieron uso de los instrumentos de pugna y de defensa que tuvieron a su alcance. No sólo echaron mano de armas de fuego, bombas improvisadas, medios de transporte animal, propaganda impresa, sino también de canciones que sirvieron como instrumentos de protesta y como portadores de mensajes que les acompañaron a lo largo de los tres años de la cristiada. Las fuentes que registraron el conflicto cristero, en su mayoría, dan testimonio del uso constante de canciones de variados géneros que permearon las diferentes facetas de esta lucha que tuvo su mayor auge en la zona centro occidente de la república mexicana. Es por ello que a lo largo de este trabajo de tesis, se extraerán de las fuentes disponibles las canciones en torno a la guerra cristera agrupándolas en los géneros que para ello así se dispusieron, a saber, canciones cristeras de origen religioso (himnos, devocionales y penitenciales) y canciones cristeras de origen profano (parodias, de entretenimiento y corridos), no sin antes brindar un panorama general de los factores que dieron pie al estallido de esta guerra. Así mismo, se analizará su letra partiendo del contexto en que fueron empleadas a fin de brindar una invitación a comprender la cristiada a través de esta forma de expresión a través del canto. Finalmente, y como parte aportativa de esta investigación, se procederá a transcribir en notación musical todas y cada una de las canciones cristeras antes abordadas para dar como resultado un verdadero cancionero cristero que integre no solamente la letra de estas canciones, como hasta ahora sólo se ha hecho, sino también las partituras correspondientes con su respectivo soporte histórico.
