The main objective of the study is to evaluate the response of a low-rise reinforced concrete building, located in the lake area of Mexico City, through the use of post-tensioned high-strength steel cables. The efficiency of the system is studied through the level of stiffness that can be obtained with the cables, the effect of changes in dynamic properties, the reduction of displacements and interfloor distortions. The increase in axial forces on the columns and the impact of this increase on the ductility and resistance of the columns are also analyzed. In previous studies, a very wide range of the initial tensioning force applied to the cables, measured as a function of their resistance, as well as the area of steel that is placed as reinforcement, has been observed. For this reason, the effect of these variables on the behavior of the structure is studied. The impact that other variables have on the response are, the initial cracked inertia in the elements, the way the infill walls are modeled and the seismic demands. These parameters are evaluated in the different building model.
