This paper aims to contribute to the discussion on the feasibility of producing "bioethanol" in the country as an energy alternative, using Agave cupreata as feedstock. Physical and chemical characterization was done on the Agave cupreata plant, through miscellaneous methods to analyze the moisture content, the dimensions of the plant and its fractions separately (piña and leaves), as well as quantification of total reducing sugars and quantification of individual sugars from juices of such fractions. The amount of lignocellulosic materials of the fibers of the fractions was also determined. Regarding the potential for bioethanol production is addressed essentially: 1. The percentage of current bioethanol mixture 2. The surface potential to cultivate A. cupreata in the country to satisfy the demand of biomass for bioethanol production, bearing in mind the agro-ecological and climatic conditions where the plant is grown in the country and compete without affecting the use of land for info:eu-repo/semantics/other agricultural or forestry crops.
