This research, titled: The language of power. Emblematic, literature and ephemeral art in Valladolid of Michoacán, 1700-1819, addresses the scenario of the Novo-Hispanic city and, particularly that of Valladolid of Michoacán, as the space of royal power. The City relationships between the propagandistic resources like the political body of the King were reviewed, considering the most important and the emblematic programs enveloped in the ephemeral art and in the sermons, the political ritual of the royal feast, the death of the king, the enthronement of the bishop, as well as the royal funeral and other connections of the festive and ceremonial time. The main subject of this study regards the reflection on the order of the corporations in the urban space and their political representations. Through the analysis of royal, episcopal and Guadalupian printed matter and particularly of their paratexts, the clientelist praxis of numerous individuals, such as the members of the regional oligarchies of Michoacán, consolidated between 1700 and 1819, they are pointed out. The period of study is that of the Bourbons, from the reign of Philip V to the period prior to the consummation of independence, with Ferdinand VII as monarch.
La presente investigación, bajo el título: El lenguaje del poder. Emblemática, literatura y arte efímero en Valladolid de Michoacán, 1700-1819, aborda el escenario de la ciudad novohispana y, particularmente la de Valladolid de Michoacán, como el espacio del poder real. A lo largo de su trama se entretejen los recursos propagandísticos a través de los cuales la ciudad se engranaba como un eslabón del cuerpo político del rey, considerando entre los más importantes, los programas de emblemática plasmados en el arte efímero y en los sermones, el ritual político de la fiesta regia, la muerte del rey, la entronización del obispo y sus exequias, además de otras coyunturas propias del tiempo festivo y ceremonial. El estudio tiene como eje central la reflexión en torno al orden de las corporaciones en el espacio urbano y sus representaciones políticas. A través del análisis de los impresos regios, episcopales y guadalupanos, particularmente de sus paratextos, se desglosan las prácticas clientelares de numerosos individuos, miembros de las oligarquías regionales de Michoacán, consolidadas entre 1700 y 1819. El periodo de estudio es el de los borbones, desde el reinado de Felipe V hasta el periodo previo a la consumación de la independencia de México, siendo aún monarca Fernando VII.
