Objectives: To estimate the incidence of COVID-19 in children treated at the Children's Hospital of Morelia by age, sex and place of residence in the period 2020-2021, identify risk factors, the main clinical manifestations, laboratory and imaging studies, describe the treatment and evolution of the cases. Material and methods: An observational, retrospective, cross-sectional, descriptive, risk-free study was carried out. study universe. All patients diagnosed with COVID 19 treated at the hospital from April 2020 to September 2021 were studied. The source was the clinical file and a data collection format for each of the study variables. Results. The incidence was 9.5 cases per 1000 patients treated at the hospital in the study period, it affected infants and adolescents more frequently, with a predominance of females, the main risk was having direct contact with a case of COVID. The predominant symptoms were fever in (81.8%), cough (75%). In hospitalized patients, the chest telescopic and CT image changes observed were bilateral infiltrates and areas of consolidation. The main laboratory abnormalities were increased ferritin and CRP. Symptomatic treatment was given to all cases, antibiotics, and steroids in certain cases. Mortality was 17.3%. Conclusions. The mean age was 11.3 years. A quarter of hospitalized patients (28.2%) required invasive mechanical ventilation, and PIMS in one patient, it is necessary to strengthen prevention measures and maintain good control in children with comorbidity for a better evolution.
Objetivos Estimar la incidencia de COVID-19 en niños atendidos en el Hospital Infantil de Morelia por edad, sexo y lugar de residencia en el periodo 2020-2021, identificar factores de riesgo, las principales manifestaciones clínicas, estudios de laboratorio e imagen, describir el tratamiento y evolución de los casos. Material y métodos: Se realizó un estudio Observacional, retrospectivo, transversal, descriptivo, y sin riesgo. Universo de estudio. Se estudiaron todos los pacientes con diagnóstico de COVID 19 atendidos en el hospital de abril 2020 a septiembre 2021. Teniendo como fuente el expediente clínico y un formato de recolección de datos para cada una de las variables de estudio. Resultados. La incidencia fue de 9.5 casos por cada 1000 pacientes atendidos en el hospital en el periodo de estudio, afecto con mayor frecuencia a los lactantes y adolescentes, con predominó el sexo femenino, el principal riesgo fue tener contacto con en forma directa con un caso de COVID. Los síntomas predominantes fueron la fiebre en el (81.8%), tos (75%). En los hospitalizados, las alteraciones de imagen en tele de tórax y TAC observadas fueron infiltrados bilaterales y zonas de consolidación. La principal alteración de laboratorio fue aumento de ferritina y PCR. Se dio tratamiento sintomático a todos los casos, antibiótico, y esteroide en ciertos casos. La mortalidad fue 17.3%. Conclusiones. La media de edad fue de 11.3 años. La cuarta parte de los pacientes hospitalizados (28.2%) requirieron ventilación mecánica invasiva, y PIMS en un paciente, se requiere fortalecer las medidas de prevención y mantener un buen control en niños que tengan comorbilidad para una mejor evolución.
