Goals To estimate the incidence of esophageal atresia by age and sex and place of residence in children treated at the Morelia Children's Hospital from 2019 to August 2021, classify the type of atresia, identify risk factors, assess the timeliness of diagnosis and associated malformations, establish the prognosis of the patients according to the Waterston classification and describe the treatment and evolution of the cases included in the study. Material and methods: A retrospective cohort study was carried out in patients with a diagnosis of esophageal atresia treated at our hospital, during the period between 2019 - August 2021. Analyzing the files to know the evolution of each patient. Results The records of the Neonatology service of the Morelia children's hospital were reviewed in the period between 2019 and August 2021, 19 patients with esophageal atresia were identified, in that period the service treated a total of 1120 patients so the incidence of atresia corresponds to 1.7%. In relation to sex, atresia predominated in males with 52.7%, as reported in the international literature. In relation to the specific risk factors, the predominant factor was maternal age over 35 years with 42%, and the lowest was the history of atresia in the family with a relative. Conclusions In HIM, the frequency of atresia is similar to the literature (1/1000 live births), more frequent in males, and the mean gestational age is 38 weeks. |
