The Ti-6Al-4V alloy is composed of two phases (α/β) and is characterized by a good mechanical strength-to-weight ratio and high corrosion resistance which allow it to be used in different industrial and biomedical applications. Its properties are optimized through heat treatments to modify the microstructure. The determination of residual stresses is complicated when traditional non-destructive methods are used. The acustoelastic response of materials can be established from flight time measurements of ultrasonic signals. The objective is to evaluate the behavior of a thermally aged Ti-6Al-4V alloy, using ultrasonic signals, in addition to microstructural and mechanical characterization. The results of this research could be used to monitor on the laboratory scale the absolute effort and could have the potential for practical uses in field applications. The effect of different heat treatments on the elastic constants of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy determined through measurements of acustoslasticity through the use of longitudinal and shear waves was evaluated, mechanical stress tests were performed, Vickers microhardness, PTE measurements, and application of MEB, MO and DRX techniques for mechanical and microstructural characterization. The equiaxial microstructure is composed of α phase as a matrix with β phase colonies and precipitates α2 dispersed inside α grains, β volumetric fraction and α grain size are in function of the aging time, at 220 hours of aging, the maximum values of microhardness, ultimate tensile, and yield strength of 371.25 HV, 1024 MPa and 990 MPa were obtained, respectively.
