The municipality of Uruapan has always represented an important point in the Michoacán geography, both for its beautiful natural environment, and its strategic location between different geographical areas of the State of Michoacán. El Municipio de Uruapan ha representado desde siempre un punto importante en la geografía michoacana, tanto por su medio natural privilegiado, como por su estratégica ubicación entre diversas zonas geográficas del Estado de Michoacán. Representa la coyuntura y punto obligado de paso entre la meseta purépecha, la tierra caliente y la zona lacustre; dicha situación ha propiciado el crecimiento inesperado de su cabecera municipal, sobre todo a partir de la segunda mitad del Siglo XX. La región de Uruapan posee diversidad cultural y natural; esta región se caracteriza por la fertilidad de sus suelos, lo que permite el crecimiento de distintas flores y frutos únicos en el país; así como diversas construcciones arquitectónicas pertenecientes al siglo XVI, mismos que se encuentran en el centro de la ciudad que a la par de las construcciones de su primer cuadro por ejemplo poseen un carácter histórico como los antiguos portales, mismos que se han visto afectados por diversos comercios y establecimientos mismos que se encuentran en el sitio, debido a que cuentan con una diversidad de anuncios luminosos y de colores, provocando una contaminación visual y un mal aspecto para las personas que acuden a la zona. Cabe señalar que este sitio es sede de fiestas tradicionales y de barrio coloridas, que son de costumbres ancestrales. Las vialidades que son de uso tanto peatonales como de vehiculares, se ven entorpecidas por la falta de señalamientos; también han sido afectadas debido a que el transporte urbano circular por el centro de la ciudad dañando de forma gradual el pavimento de las calles, al igual que sus edificios históricos.
